AI voice agents are finally good enough for discovery calls. Should they take them?
Latency dropped below the awkwardness threshold. The harder question is what happens to your pipeline data when a machine runs the first conversation.

Two years ago, AI voice agents failed the interruption test: talk over them and the whole illusion collapsed. That is no longer true. The current generation handles barge-in, holds a thread through a tangent, and books the meeting.
The technical problem is solved. The commercial question is not. Discovery is where you learn why a buyer is moving now, and that signal degrades when nobody on your side heard it live.
Where they work
Qualification of inbound volume you would otherwise never call back. Reactivation of dormant lists. After-hours coverage in markets you do not staff. In each case the alternative is silence, and an AI agent beats silence.
Where they fail is the deal you actually want. Buyers in a competitive evaluation notice, and a handful of them told our panel they downgraded the vendor for it.
